Green + Black: Gift Wrapping
Last week I mentioned that Friday was my hubby’s birthday. The cool thing about that is that it was also my father-in-law’s birthday! Yes, they were born on the same day — how cool is that? Now, I am usually more of a gift bag kind of girl, but this season I am making an effort to change that. Not that there’s anything wrong with a gift bag — because, let’s face it, there are so many pretty ones to choose from these days. But I’m trying my hand at this whole creative wrapping thing, and I gotta say… I’m loving it!

I went to Hobby Lobby for my wrapping paper and ribbon, and I will tell you right now that I don’t think I will ever get my wrapping paper anywhere else. The quality is completely amazing — strong, crisp paper, yet easy to fold and crease. It was an absolute dream to work with — nothing like some of those paper thin wrapping papers that make you crazy when you’re trying to wrap something and a corner rips. Nuh-uh. This paper is perfection.

I decided on the green polka dot wrapping paper and the black ribbon because I really like the way green and black look together… it was that simple! The polka dots in the green shade looked a little less girlified to me, too, so I thought paired with the black ribbon it would tone it down even more.
I learned to wrap gifts pretty well during my days working at Hallmark, when we would have busy wrapping seasons. I loved it. It was a moment where I could be really creative, and I loved mixing and matching colors of papers and bows to make it extra special.

The tag was incredibly simple to make (it took minutes) and I was able to swing it with things that I have in my craft stash. The tags themselves are from Hobby Lobby, as is the stamp, which is still there — I checked! I simply used Rub ‘n Buff on the outer edges of the tag to glam it up a little bit, and then I tied the twine between the final knot in the ribbon. Can you tell I am loving Rub ‘n Buff now? After yesterday’s vase project and this tag decorating technique, I don’t know if I’m ever going to be able to put the stuff down! #somebodyhelpme
So tell me — are you a gift bag person, too, or do you love zhushing your gifts so that they’re extra special? What are your favorite color/pattern combinations to use when you gift wrap?

Thanks, Heather! And you bet — send ‘em on over! ;-) xo
Beautiful wrapping…I so love the tag!!!
Thanks, Shirley!
“Brown paper packages tied up with string!” I love simplicity in wrapping, but I also really like all the colors and fun details I’ve seen in your pictures. Colors warm things up a bit and give the receiver the notion that you’ve worked a little longer on their gift and put more thought into it. Maybe I could try brown paper with colorful string? That’d look cool too!
Thanks! And that would look beautiful — kraft paper is a type of wrapping paper that you can buy at Hobby Lobby, and you could even tie it up with bakers twine! It would be so pretty!
ps. I love the way you sign your posts!
Thanks so much, Taylor! I made that little thing just the other day.
I just love the way you wrapped this gift. The green and black are so pretty together and the tag is perfect! So … so … pretty!
Awww, thanks Mary!
I love the tip about the Hobby Lobby wrapping paper (I’ve never thought to look there!) and your present looks gorgeous! I too have always loved wrapping presents and even made extra $$ as a teenager wrapping Christmas presents for several neighborhood families!
Thanks so much, Kris! That’s awesome that you did that as a teenager. Some people just don’t like wrapping gifts!
I just love this polka-dot paper! And I especially love the fun ribbon! I am using a green and white polka-dot paper with red ribbon this year. As a teenager, I worked at a local department store at Christmas in gift wrap…it was so much fun!!
Thanks so much, Julia! I love the colors you are using — I hope you blog about it so we can see! :-)
CUTE!!! And Pantone just announced that emerald is the 2013 color of the year! Look at you, so ahead of the game ;-)
Lol, Sarah — I just read that this morning! I’ll just pretend that I knew it was coming. ;-)
